World Missions

Thom and Sherry Cahill

Tanzania

Thom and Sherry served a two-year term as VISA Missionaries with the Free Methodist Church in Kenya and then began a role in Africa with leadership development and discipleship.  They worked with Springs of Hope Bible School, led seminars with the Free Methodist Church of Kenya, and lead small group Bible studies with local university students.

However, now Thom and Sherry serve across the Asia region, while continuing to focus on leadership development.

Thom’s roles involve Gethsemane Leadership Training (GLT), strategic planning, discipleship, mentoring and coaching, teaching GLT modules, and serving in additional supportive roles. Sherry serves as coordinator of Leadership Lift, GLT teacher and video scriptwriter, video editing as needed, and administrative support to the Asia Area Director. The Cahills have three adult children and three grandchildren.

Al and Diane Mellinger

Bulgaria

The Mellingers serve as regional leaders in the Balkans. They oversee the work of Team Bulgaria which includes the Light and Life FMC in Bulgaria, The Anagenesis Foundation and New Start LLC (a company of creative livelihood groups and micro-enterprise businesses).

Team Bulgaria consists of four additional missionary families and many nationals. The Team is developing a holistic approach to ministry that includes the spiritual, educational, economic and social programs that work together to serve people.

Mike and Vickie Reynen

Africa

Mike Reynen grew up attending the Austin, MN Bethlehem Free Methodist Church in our conference. Mike works with the African leaders for the expansion of the church and the formation of local churches.

Church planting and ministerial education are vital, and Mike and Vickie both encourage the missionary teams in the work of strengthening and developing national leaders in the African countries in which they serve.

Vickie puts much of her energy into Tumaini Women Kenya, a discipleship-oriented micro-savings and loan ministry, and Thrive (also Kenya), a young women’s ministry discipling and advocating against gender-based violence and sex trafficking. She works part-time in the FMWM office, assisting with the onboarding of new missionaries.
